Highlights of monthly activity for the operating divisions of the Public Works
Department for the month of September 2000 are as follows:
ENGINEERING DIVISION
0 Awarded contract and completed epoxy striping of City streets.
0 Began water reservoir roof replacement project.
0 Began Main Street water line replacement project.
0 Continued meetings with business owners and service clubs to outline proposals for
downtown streetscape project and gauge preferences for the project design elements.
0 Continued work on utility facility planning project.
0 Continued work on the Second Alley East sewer replacement project.
0 Continued working with MDT on the Willow Glen and Woodland Avenue project.
0 Met with Eagle Transit and County regarding the joint -use storage facility project agreement.
0 Attended the annual meeting of Glacier Village Greens homeowners to discuss annexation
issues.
0 Received and awarded bid for a new leaf pick-up machine.
0 Received and awarded bid for a new tandem axle garbage truck.
0 Met with representative of commercial cell phone tower company about potentially
construction of a tower at the Buffalo Hills site.
0 Continued research into alternative water metering systems and remote water meter reading
systems.
0 Resumed field surveys of recent additions and projects to locate newer utility installations.
0 Located property line of alley intersecting California Street EN to assist Solid Waste
Division.
0 Continued field surveys of the SE'/4 of Section 36 to assist the Parks Department (KYAC).
0 Met with two local surveyors and contacted MDOT R/W office in Helena to discuss right-of-
way questions along Four -Mile Drive.
0 Prepared three worksheet maps and electronic file for utility study engineers.
0 Plotted two fire hydrant maps for the Fire Department.
0 Hired FVCC surveying student for work/study program to assist surveyor two afternoons a
week.
ENGINEERING DIVISION continued...
0 Conducted level loops in Tire Rama area to coordinate mosquito storm drain elevations with
Hwy 93 Project.
0 Helped Assistant City Engineer to determine elevations for ground water test well in Four
Corners area and drainage grade shots for one block on east side.
0 Checked elevations for concrete pad (ice melt tanks) at City Shops for the Street Department.

0 Winterize water system in Mobil sweeper.
0 Replace alarm module in Street Department tandem.
0 Ongoing modifications to new garbage truck.
0 Fabricate new PTO shaft for Water Department tandem.
0 Modifying new garbage truck per Foreman's request.
0 Replaced hydraulic hoses and air control valve assembly on the garbage truck.
0 Replaced radiator on the Street Division's pickup.
0 Replaced computer module, fan, and bearings on the Elgin Sweeper.
SANITARY/STORM SEWER DIVISON
0 Continued video and jet cleaning of sewer lines Monday through Thursday.
0 Performed weekly maintenance of sixteen lift stations each Friday.
SOLID WASTE DIVISION
0 Delivered 15 containers to new customers: 13 -100 gallon, 1 -400 gallon, 1 -300 gallon.
0 Repaired 3 containers and responded to 4 violations.
0 Continued weekly garbage service.
0 Continued weekly alley cleanup, Street Division assisting.
0 Started training new operator, Jerry Schroeder.
STREET DIVISION
0 General sweeping and flushing of City Streets.
0 Alley grading ongoing.
0 Back filled driveway approaches in paved alleys.
0 Prepped 100 Hill top for patching and patched curb line at 100 Hill Top Avenue.
0 Cleaned City Shop yard.
0 Utility cut at 1st Avenue West.
0 Prepped area at shop for new deicer tanks.
0 Hauled sweepings to Lawrence Park.
0 Assisted the Water Division with the new water main in the City yard.
0 Moved power cable and conduit to new slab and finished forming slab for concrete.
0 Poured new concrete pad for the deicer tanks and plumbed in the new deicer circulation
PUMPS.
WATER DIVISION
WATER PRODUCTION & STORAGE:
0 Produced 99 M gallons of water: 26 M gallons upper zone and 73 M gallons lower zone.
0 Injected 233 gallons of sodium hypochlorite, 12% solution to maintain an average chlorine
residual of 0.26 PPM throughout the system.
0 Continued routine maintenance on all pumps, motors, chlorination equipment, grounds,
buildings, controls, testing, and record keeping.
0 Drained Reservoir #1.
0 Contractor started roof repair/replacement work on Reservoir #1.
0 Installed water heater at Buffalo Booster Station.
0 Contractor installed underground phone lines across Lawrence Park to the Noffsinger Spring
Pump Station.
0 Winterized all irrigation systems.
0 Rebuilt screen for ventilation at Noffsinger Spring Pump Station pump tunnel.
0 Removed old debris and boards from crawl space and wooden site board from Noffsinger
Spring.
0 Completed all repair work from lightning damage of May 7, 2000.
0 Set up site tubes for #2 Reservoir.
WATER CONSTRUCTIONAND SYSTEMREPAIR:
0 Tagged 65 delinquent accounts on the East Side of Kalispell.
0 Completed 90 work orders during the month of September.
0 Hauled old fire hydrants to Pacific Steel.
0 Assisted with 18" tap on Main Street.
0 Replaced fire hydrants at:

0 6th Avenue East & 12th Street East

0 Repaired main break at lst Avenue East and Idaho Street.
0 Repaired service line at 625 Sylvan Court and at Main Street and 5m Street.
0 Repaired 6" gate valve at 1st Avenue West and repaired an 18" gate valve at Main & Center.
0 Replaced a 6" valve at Main Street.
0 Hauled sweepings to Lawrence Park.
0 Cleaned City yard for new wash pad.
0 Assisted with repairs of the main break on Kelly Road.
0 Repaired 18" bell joint on Main Street.
0 Installed 8" gate valve at Main Street and Market.
0 12x8" tap at Sunnyview.
0 Dug an 18" gate valve on Main Street and Market and opened it.
0 Dug and replaced curb and rod at 5th Avenue East and 6th Street East.
0 12x8" tap at Meridian and Center Street for Nupac.
TRAFFIC SIGNS & SIGNALS DIYISON
0 Continued regular maintenance of signals, signs, luminaires, barricades, sight obstructions,
and Airport lighting.
0 Coordinated with contractor to remove the four City owned luminaires on North Main Street
by Depot Park.
0 Replaced missing sign poles by the Flathead High School.
0 Gathered cabinet electronics from Idaho & Main Street and stored at the TSS shop.
0 Furnished signs and cones for the Cross Country meet held at Woodland Park.
0 Spotted the City streets prior to striping.
0 Repaired damaged conduit at Main and Center Street where contractor hit conduit when
digging for underground utilities.
0 Mark Rite Lines of MT, Inc. striped the City streets and avenues with epoxy paint during the
week of 9/11/00.
0 Gathering traffic counts at 1st Avenue East and 11 th Street East.
0 Installed six meter poles in the O'Neill Lot for the Parking Commission.
0 Fabricated and installed new street name signs for the Contractor at Greatview.
Provided 21hours of support to MDOT for sign and signal repairs in NW Montana at the
following locations: Center & Main Street, Idaho & Main Street, Central & fd Street, Hwy
93 North & Hwy 4, Hwy 93 South & 18th Street, Main & Center & West Reserve —
Whitefish, Idaho & 5th Avenue WN, and Hwy 40 & Hwy 2 East.
WASTEWATER TREATMENT DIVISION
0 128 Work orders were completed during the month of September.
0 381 Lab tests were performed during the month of September.
0 11 Loads of sludge were hauled during September.
0 39,900 pounds of bio-solids were pressed.
0 August Permit Discharge Report: No plant violations. The average daily flow through the
plant was 1.85 million gallons; the total monthly flow was 57 million gallons.
0 Replacing east primary clarifier chains, flights, and grease lines; rebuilding clarifier weirs.
