SUBJECT: Award Bid — Valve Maintenance Trailer
MEETING: December 17, 2012
BACKGROUND: Bids for the Valve Maintenance Trailer were opened on Tuesday, December
4, 2012. The Valve Maintenance Trailer will replace the current outdated vacuum trailer utilized
by the Water Maintenance Division. In addition to vacuum, the new trailer is also equipped with
valve exercising equipment allowing crews to perform routine valve maintenance in accordance
with AWWA standards. Two responsive bids were received.

In the 2012-2013 budget $60,000 is available for the purchase of a new Valve Maintenance
Trailer.
References of the lowest bidder were checked and they were determined to be a responsible
corporation, successfully manufacturing, delivering, and warranting equipment within this scope.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Award the 2012 Valve Maintenance Trailer bid to Illinois
Tool Works in the amount of $52,750.00.
ACTION REQUESTED: At the City Council meeting, motion to award the bid for the Valve
Maintenance Trailer to Illinois Tool Works.
FISCAL EFFECTS: The purchase will be funded from the Water Fund.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested and approved by the City Council.
