Subject: low flying airplanes
Dear Quiet Skies Members and Interested Residents, 05-10-2011
I have been receiving a number of calls from residents about low flying airplanes over the City,( Again) Homes and
Schools of Kalispell from aircraft taking off from our city airport runway. I have made three phone calls to our Airport
Manager in the last three weeks and he said he will act on the complaints and related that others are calling in with
complaints. ( Good Job People ) It is mutually agreed by the Airport Manager and the City that all aircraft taking off
(North) on our city airport need to exit the area according to the recommended F.A.A. route. This example has been
relayed to Red Eagle Aviation the FBO at the airport, and they have been complying. ( We thank You ) But now there are
others that are based at the City airport that must not have got the word. Our Airport manager stated that he posted a
notice in the Red Eagle Aviation Building. And it's apparent not all pilots go in there.
So we discussed other locations to put up a sign (notice), to let local pilots and visiting pilots from other near by
airports know the route they must use if taking off north on this City airport. We call it Fly Neighborly route. It's only
telling them that they need to bank to the west after take off and no flying over the City on take off. No flying over
Schools or residents of Kalispell. And that they are to take off to the south if there is little to no wind at all times.
We think a few other signs at our airport giving this notice will help to reduce these infractions to the requests of the
residents. And a notice to all pilots that violation of this will end in there expulsion from the use of our airport. They must
remember, it's our Airport, not there's.
I recommended that a large sign would be placed at the fuel pumps, ( we know they all stop there, can't pump until you
read the sign ) Our Airport Manager stated that we would have to get permission from Red Eagle Aviation as they are
there pumps and leased property. I can't think of any reason why they would say no. Also there are other additional
locations for this NOTICE on the airport grounds that can be seen by all pilots.
I still recommend that the Kalispell City Police Department have a 24 hour recording web cam of all aircraft taking off and
landing and using our airport. For getting tail number of aircraft violating our Air Park Rules and notice to any that this
property is under police surveillance to keep the bad people out. We also need tighter restrictions on the type of aircraft
using our City airport. We are not a F.A.A. controlled Airport, so people are landing types of aircraft that are not safe to
do so. We need to enforce this. Just because it can land or take off, don't mean it's safe for the residents to do so. We
only want utility one aircraft using this airport. We don't want it expanded for larger aircraft with or with out F.A.A.
funding. Keep it small and only small aircraft will, keep it safe and operating. Only single engine piper cub use only. And
the locals want the removal of all helicopter use. It's just a bad location for that type of use.
We have options, Close it, Re -locate it and make it bigger, Move it to G.P.I, or Keep it small and enforce rules and
regulations.
Call our Airport manager and report any violations, noise, or low flying aircraft. And let him know you want these
NOTICE's put up and Enforced by him and the K.P.D. ( They enforce rules at Woodland and Lawrence and other City
Park property locations.) His phone number is:( 406-250-3065) Call your Mayor and Council members and City Manager
let them know if your in favor of this.
