Aero-Medical TransportThe enclosed information is for the purpose of evaluating the possibility of basing
an aero-medical transport business (fixed wing) at the Kalispell City Airport. Due to the
close proximity of S27 to the Kalispell Regional Medical Center, the airport is a very
likely candidate for an aero-inedical fixed base operation. The City of Kalispell is
looking at future plans to build a South Kalispell Fire Station on the southern boundary of
the City Airport when the expansion and realignment of the runway project begins. The
infrastructure will be put into place, by the City of Kalispell, in conjunction with the
expansion project. The Fire Station will be manned with paramedical personnel who
provide the ALS for the City Ambulance service. These same personnel could be trained
and made available for airborne medical personnel. In the same area of the airport will
be located the emergency equipment and snow removal equipment for the airport
operations. The expanded airport will include instrument landing and departure
capaties with a Super AWOS installed.
The City of Kalispell may be interested in assisting in the development of an aero-
medical transport operations through the construction and lease of hangar facilities. This
would be funded through the Airport TIF and would require City Council approval.
The development of an aero-medical transport operation would be the sole
responsibility of the individuals who agree to fimd a start up business. The aircraft used
in the operation must meet the requirements of a Certified Medical Transport Provider
with the carrying capacity as specified by the medical facility utilizing the service. The
aircraft must have the necessary equipment aboard to provide ALS. The cargo doors
must be large enough to accommodate stretcher patients. The aircraft must be
pressurized and manned with two IFR rated pilots.
Attached to this memo is a brief description of the transports made from the base
in Kalispell, Montana. This includes transports to and from KRMC plus other medical
facilities in the area. This does not represent all the medical transports conducted in NW
Montana, but only those accomplished by ALERT 11, the current contract provider in the
.iw , -re2-.
