Approval of Minutes: Russ moved to approve the May 22 minutes; Julie seconded.
Approved 5-0.
Old Business: None
New Business:
Flathead Industries — 40 E Idaho — new wall sign. 160 sq ft. Discussion regarding prior
comments on sign — size/proximity to road, etc. Mark had called in comments — suggested 12 ft
width and stack the words. Discussed border, focus more on the sign. Does it need to be
symmetrical? They will take comments and e-mail it in. Janet moved to have the applicant
submit the updates electronically to the committee for approval prior to the next meeting. John
seconded. Motion approved 5-0.
Other Discussion:
Sparrow Group — E Center/3rd Ave apartment project. They have submitted for a CUP. This is
just for initial comments, not project approval. Felt that the design was a bit repetitive — would
colors make a difference? Maybe flip building around to orient towards the street. 3 story scale
on the street seems a bit much, particularly given the transition to the residential area to the
south.
Red Lion — proposing text amendment to consider certain changes to electronic reader boards to
be considered routine maintenance. The problem with the current rule is that they cannot really
repair an existing reader board effectively without losing grandfathered status, so the
malfunctioning one remains in disrepair. The committee felt that this is a good idea.
