Highlights of monthly activity for the operating divisions of the Public Works
Department for the month of September 2005 are as follows:
ENGINEERING DIVISION
• Conducted technical review meeting with MDT and consultant team designing water and
sewer extensions along US 93 for the Old School Station project.
• Conducted initial project meeting with MDT planning staff to outline the scope and
conduct of the Kalispell Transportation Plan Update.
Prepared Preliminary assessment of public infrastructure for proposed BNSF Urban
Renewal District.
is Conducted a City Council work session for the Impact Fee Development project.
• Conducted several technical review meetings with design team performing odor control
study for WWTP expansion project.
• Conducted technical review with design consultants for Upper Zone Water Storage
project. Reviewed tank site options and recommendation.
• Interviewed several candidates for Associate Civil (storm water) Engineer and
Construction Manager. Made offers for each. One .Associate Civil Engineer position. still
unfilled.
• Performed minor traffic studies for stop signs at two intersections.
• Continued review and analysis of deficient sidewalks and identified potential solution for
current problem.
• Reviewed plans and engineer's reports for Lone Pine Meadows Subdivision and
Westwood Park Subdivision,
• Conducted on -site conference for construction of water line extension on Meridian Road.
• Calculated System Development Charges for commercial developments.
• Reviewed plans and specifications for the water main extensions for the Junior High
School and Flathead Orthopedic Center.
• Conducted preconstruction conference for the Granary Subdivision.
Reviewed plans for Northview Heights Subdivision water main extension and street
construction. for North Riding Lane to Three Mile Drive.
• Began drafting plans for the proposed Street Department building.
Participated in regular site review meetings held on Thursday.

• Continued regular maintenance of City vehicles and machinery.
• Stripped old police car of push bumper, cage, and window guards. Disabled rear door
locks, installed plastic rear seat, installed window guards and cage in new police vehicle.
Replaced blades on Parks" mower.
• Repaired and gelded grabber arrn on garbage truck..
• Replaced hydraulic hoses. Bled and adjusted fir man's basket on the ladder truck.
• Replaced front and rear brakes on PD car.
• Removed trailer hitch and wiring harness from one PD car and. transferred to another car.
• Fabricated and weld new wing cylinder mount on Parks mower.
• Installed windows and repaired deck tube adapter on Parks mower.
• Repaired leafing axle on Tymco sweeper.
• Replaced hydraulic solenoid on the tenant sweeper.
o Painted traffic signs and signal trailer.
• replaced front brakes and calipers on Fire Department's ambulance.
Replaced front rotors and brake pads on Fire Department's vehicle.
Replaced rear axle seals and brake cylinder on the Parking Commission's Cushman.
• Replaced spotlight lamp and repaired signals on police car.
• Installed p soner cage, window guards, and disabled rear inside door lochs on police car.
• Replaced radiator recovery tank and hoses on the Parks' mower.
• Installed new blades and adjusted anvils on the arts' chipper.
+ Repaired cutter broom bracket on the Elgin sweeper.
• Repaired beacon win'ng on the sand truck.
o Replaced drum and flail assembly on the leaf machine.
• Replaced power steering hose on the Public Works' car.
• Repaired wiring to lights on the Fire Department's ladder truck.
Replaced front braes and calipers on the Shop truck.
• Replaced broken deck belt on PR mover.
• Replaced headlight switch and adjusted lamps on PR pick-up.
• Replaced four tires, repaired steering and aligned front-end. on WA pick-up.
0 Replaced temperature sender and repaired wifing on WA ba l hoe.

o Repaired. turn signals on garbage truck.
o Replaced vibrator switch on street roller.
o Replaced air compressor and dryer assembly on street tandem.
Replaced axle boot on street pick-up.
0 Repaired wiring and rear light sockets on the Parking Commission's Cullman.
Installed fog light kit on ambulance.
o Repaired water pressure relief valve on the Fire Department's ladder truer.

• Continued video and jet cleaning of sewer lines Monday through Thursday.
• Performed weekly maintenance of twenty-six lift stations each Friday.
• Held weekly safety meetings.
SOLID WASTE .DIVISION
• Delivered I I containers to new customers: o- o gallon, 4 -100 gallon, - 00 gallon,
3 - oo gallon.
Repaired 10 containers: 4— 90 gallon, 4 300 gallon, 2— 400 gallon and responded to 12
violations.
• Continued weekly garbage service and alley cleanup.

STREET DIVISION
• General operations and maintenance of City streets and alleys.
• patched various alleys and streets throughout the City.
► Sweepers prepped and patched radius of Hedges School. Grade and haul crush for
basketball court.
• Alley grading — patched Water Dept. main break at 2 d Ave. E. and Sib St. E.
• Alley cleanup — reset bumpers in parting lot on Main St. & 3"' St. E.
o Prepped and paved main break.
• Crack sealed on var'ous streets,
o Patched on E. Oregon, rnanboles adjustments on E. Oregon and E. Washington. Patched
alley at 515 S' Ave. E.
• Held weekly safety meetings.
WA TER DIVISION
WA TER PR OD UCTION & S TRA GE
• Produced 125 M gallons of water: 41 M gallons upper zone and 84 M gallons lower zone.
• Injected 483 gallons of sodium hypo h or'te, 12% solution to maintain are average
chlorine residual of 0.34 PPM throughout the systems..
• Continued daily monitoring of all pump stations and routine maintenance on all pumps,
motors, chlorination equipment, analyzers, grounds, buildings, controls, testing, water
sampling, and record keeping,
Had all fire extinguishers inspected and certified.
► Landscaped, graded, and paved Army well site.
• Winterized buildings and blew out all xr ation lines.
Renew telemetry radio license.
Troubleshot and found undersized breaker at Army well.
Met with Department of Agriculture and discussed weeds in grass at well sites.
Repaired eye wash station at depot well.
Received shipment of 670 gallons Sodium ypoch or te,
o Repaired broken glass 1n door at Hollinger Spr'n .
• Held weekly safety meetings.
• Tagged 47 delinquent accounts on the East Side of Kalispell.
• Meter maintenance and change out on going.
• Completed 184 work orders during the month September.
• Repaired 87 meters.
• Installed 133 meters.
Checked 3 8 meters for high consumption.
• Ran service line from man to curb stop at 10 to Avenue west & I t Street west.
• Repaired '' bell joint at 1 OthAvenue wet and Center Street.

Repaired service line at 118 Northern Lights.
o Completed a 12 x 12" water tap at " Street west and Meridian Road.
► Completed 2 16 x 12"' water taps at Men'd an Road and Maho Street.

• Completed a 8 x 8" water tap at the Jr. High School.

TRAFFIC SIGNS & SIGNALS DIVISON
Continued regular maintenance of signals, signs, luminaires, barricades, sight
obstrction.s, airport lighting, alley lighting.
+ Completed traffic counts in Lawrence Park and Woodland Park.
o Washed red concrete cross -walks on f Avenue West & Center Street and at .venue
East and. East Center Street in an attempt to get chip seal oil out.
Reinstall file path stop sign at River View Dr and Whitefish Stage.
Installed new pole and breakaway for stop sign and Street name sins at river view
Dave and Whitefish Stage. Old wooden pole needed replacement. Installed new stop
sign and old street name signs,
0 Continued pruning sight obstructions all around the City.
• Replaced 1 old OD poles for crosswalks with new 2 38 " near style CAD poles.
Performed sign survey in business district for the parking commission.
Locator on decorative lights, alley lights, luminaires, and traffic signals for contractor
nd St. W. and 1' Ave. W.
Replaced two Bollards — lighted that were hocked down. Later the one at Center and 1 t
Ave. W. was out again. This one was put back up the next day.
0 Helped with cones for road traffic control due to fire at the new Glacier Bank site.
Conducted and finished sign survey on stop signs in City Limits.
Checked on contractor repaifing City alley lights.
Blocked off paring for funeral on Main St.
o Dug holes for stop signs at Palmer Dr. and Ritzman Lane in village Greens. Did same on
Great View Dr. for a no parking sign — installed poles, breakaways, and signs.
o Made PVC loop for replacement of Saw Cut loop at exit to the mall at Center Street and.
" Ave. W. — installed on 5. St. Dept. removed the asphalt and repaved it when we
were done. Had to replace the pull box damaged beyond repair (currently operates well).
o Weekly safety meeftn ;s held.
WASTE WA TER TREE. TMENT DIVISION
0 137 Work orders were completed dur n.g the month of September.
0 435 Lab tests were performed during the month of September.
24 Loads of sludge were hauled during September.
• 93,520 pounds ofbio-solids were pressed.
o Pennit Report for: There were no permi .t violations, The total monthly flow was 86
million gallons. The average daily flow was 2.8 million gallons with a peak flow of 2.9
million gallons on September 24h
• The secondary clarifier center drive mechanism replacement is substantially completed.
o Safety meetings are conducted weekly.
