RESOLUTION NO. 5554
A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE'S
PROPOSALS/PLANS TO RELAX OR CHANGE THE CURRENT POSTAL SERVICE
STANDARDS, CLOSE POST OFFICES, AND CONSOLIDATE MAIL PROCESSING
CENTERS.
WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Kalispell rely on the United States Postal Service
(Postal Service) to deliver items timely, six days per week to conduct commerce
and to obtain goods and information not available locally; and
WHEREAS, many of our citizens, including the chronically ill, senior citizens, the disabled,
and veterans rely on the Postal Service for timely delivery of medical supplies
necessary for survival; and
WHEREAS, rural areas are being required to shoulder a disproportionate burden in an attempt
to balance the Postal Service's budget.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
KALISPELL, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. That the City of Kalispell opposes relaxing or changing current
Postal Service standards, closing of post offices, and consolidating
mail processing centers that will adversely affect our citizens.
SECTION II. That the City of Kalispell opposes the Postal Service's proposal to
eliminate quality jobs in our community and recognizes the efforts
of our local postal workers.
SECTION III. That the City of Kalispell request the Postal Service, Postal
Regulatory Commission, and our Congressional Delegation
provide detailed, transparent information that shows the true and
accurate cost savings of changing/relaxing service standards,
closures, and consolidations.

THE CITY OF KALISPELL, ON THE 2ND DAY OF APRIL, 2012.
