2. Award Bid - Sidewalk & Curbing ConstructionMarch 13, 2012 REPORT TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Fred Zavodny, Project Manager SUBJECT: Award Bid — 2012 Sidewalk and Curbing Construction BACKGROUND: This contract is designed to assist property owners wishing to replace or construct new infill sidewalks adjacent to their property utilizing the 50150 cost sharing program. The 50150 cost sharing program was established by the City Council to encourage sidewalk construction by equally dividing the cost between the City and the property owner. Bids for Sidewalk and Curbing Construction for the year ending December 31, 2012 were opened on Thursday, March 8, 2012. One bid was received from Sandon Construction Company Inc. The bid was in order and contained the required Bid Bond. Sandon's Bid Price to replace an average 250 SF sidewalk for 2011 and 2012 is as follows: Bid Item 2011 2012 Sidewalk Removal 250.00 250.00 Excavation & Concrete Placement 1237.50 1250.00 Landscaping 200.00 200.00 Total $1687.50 $1700.00 Sandon's Bid Price to install an average 250 SF infill sidewalk for 2011 and 2012 is as follows: Bid Item 2011 2012 Excavation & Concrete Placement 1237.50 1250.00 Landscaping 200.00 200.00 Total $1437.50 $1450.00 In both cases the increase in price from last year is $12.50. Considering the rising cost of fuel and materials the increase is not excessive or unreasonable. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Award the bid for Sidewalk and Curbing Construction for the Year ending December 31, 2012 to Sandon Construction Company Inc. FISCAL EFFECTS: The City has $1721.00 remaining in the current budget for 50150 sidewalk work. A $35,000 appropriation is requested for the 2012/2013 fiscal year.
