Monks to Council/Airport DecisionFebruary 5, 2012 Dear Council Members; We would like to take this time to encourage you to go forward with Stelling Engineers recommendations. Our property borders the city airport and has been held hostage by the city of Kalispell for almost twenty years. Enough studying - please make a decision; it doesn't matter to us what plan you choose, just that you choose one and move forward. In 1993 our development was turned down because of the cities intent to upgrade and extend the runway (we have documentation that proves this statement). You are condemning our property without going through condemnation proceedings, which is condemnation blight. A buyer is not interested in purchasing our property without knowing what the city intends to do. In 2009 we inquired about building airplane hangers. Our property is county property, but the county zoning office said we need to comply with city zoning because our property borders the city. We were told by Kalispell city planners that a height restriction was put on our property and they would not allow any new buildings because our property is designated for future airport development. We were told that we cannot build any buildings of any kind, on our eleven acres. This is why we have been consulting with Mr. Dale McGarvey. He has told us that what you are doing is illegal. You cannot reserve someone's property with the intent that you may purchase it someday. Past council members have chosen to table this issue so it can be studied more. Please understand that not making a decision does affect the property owners involved. We are in hopes that you will do the right thing and vote to go forward with one of Stelling's plans.
