SUBJECT: 2012 DNRC Urban Forestry Grant Award
MEETING DATE: November 21, 2011
BACK GROUND: The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation made
available grant funding to assist Montana cities and communities in enhancing and improving
their urban forestry programs. The grant process required a 50150 match. The Kalispell Parks
and Recreation department was awarded $3,890 in grant funding, utilizing existing budgeted
monies for the match. This project proposal would allow the city to contract for the planting of
twenty five residential boulevard trees and the purchase of tree planting materials.
RECOMMENDATION: Adoption of the Resolution accepting the grant and appropriating the
amount of $3,890 with a match of $3,890 from existing urban forestry funds.
FISCAL EFFECTS: Additional $3,890 in urban forestry funding.

WHEREAS, on August 15, 2011, the City Council adopted Resolution 5513 adopting the
annual appropriations of the City of Kalispell for fiscal year 2011-2012; and
WHEREAS, on November 16, 2011, the City of Kalispell was informed that it was a recipient
of an Department of Natural Resources Grant for enhancing and improving its
Urban Forestry Program; and
WHEREAS, the City will provide matching funds in the amount of $3,890; and
WHEREAS, said funds now available to the City have not been appropriated and an increase of
appropriation authority is needed for the project total of $3,890.
1 ! t#' TAEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCILOF
KALISPELL AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. That the City Council hereby accepts the DNRC grant in the amount of up
to $3,890.
SECTION II. That the City Council hereby appropriates up to the sum of $3,890 and
directs the Finance Director to allocate said amount.
