Highlights of monthly activity for the operating divisions of the Public Works
Department for the month of May 2005 are as follows:
ENGINEERING DIVISION
• Participated in County planning roundtable discussions related to update of the County
Growth Policy Plan.
• Continued support of meetings with development group planning to extend utilities south
on US 93 to Rocky Cliff Rd.
• Met with engineers and developer of Waterford project to discuss revisions to and
extension of the PUD.
• Met with school district and engineers planning new high school to discuss roadway and
access requirements.
• Conducted technical discussions with WWTP design consultants to review progress of
design effort and process modeling.
• Met with homeowners to discuss options for extending sewer services to serve the area
along South Woodland Drive and vicinity.
• Requested proposal from HDR/EES to perform an Impact Fee Study for the City for
water, sewer, storm drainage, police, fire and parks.
• Conducted technical discussion and review of options to remedy cooling tower drainage
and water metering problems at Tidymans.
• Conducted technical discussion. with developer of Northland subdivision and Stelling
Engineers regarding access to Kalispell bypass in the vicinity of the development.
• Made site observations at Leisure Heights Subdivision, Granrud Lane Upgrade, Empire
Estates Subdivision, Three Mile Subdivision, and Noffsinger Springs Lead Abatement
and Window Replacement Project site.
• Issued approval letter for Blue Heron Subdivision, Phase III, to delete sewage pumping
station. The proposed sewage pumping station for Cottonwood Park will be sized to
handle the flow from Blue Heron Subdivision, Phase 111.
• Issued approval letter for Bowser Creek Subdivision ---- Phase I & 2.
• Issued letters regarding bond expirations for Ashley Park, Phase VII, Northview
Subdivision, Phase I, and J&L Subdivision.
• Performed a walk through examination of Sunnyside Subdivision, Phase 1.1,
ENGINEERING DIVISION continued...
• Began City's responses to comments received regarding proposed Standards for Design
and Construction.
• Performed designed check of grading plan for Tele Tech parking lot.
• Responded to comments received regarding proposed Standards for Design and
Construction.
• Attended meeting with School District ##5 Junior High remodel design team to discuss
traffic layout.
• Attended meeting with engineer and contractor regarding road deficiencies on Ashley
Drive.
• Worked on Gateway West Mall Parking Lot Addition Project.
• Attended pre -construction meeting for the Central School Museum Roof Drain Project.
Sandon began work on May 16, 2005.
• Prepared system development charges for various projects including: Bed, Bath &
Beyond, Best Buy, Glacier Gateway Motel, Northwest Healthcare, and Kalispell Fire
Station.
• Researched individual lot drainage regulations of other municipalities.
• Reviewed planning board agenda items.
• Attended site review meetings held on Thursday.

• Replaced accessory drive belt on the Parks' van.
• Replaced lift arras actuator on the garbage truck.
• Replaced gutter brooms on the Elgin sweeper.
• Resealed water pipe collar on the fire truck.
• Adjusted water pump packing on the ladder track.
• Replaced all brakes on police car.
• Replaced PTO bearing, drive line yoke, and deck belt on Parks' mower.
• Replaced broken tube and repaired open electrical circuit on garbage truck.
CENTRAL GARAGE continued...
• Repaired wiring on Street Tandem for "no" start.
• Replaced warning beacon and cutting edges on Street Division's backhoe.
• Repaired leaking power steering on Street Division's water truck.
• Repaired outside mirrors and replaced boom switch on Parks boom truck,
• Replaced front spring bushings and pins on garbage truck.
• Rebuilt door latch and repaired radiator on the Elgin sweeper.
• Replaced wiring and replaced four way flashers on the Street Division's tandem.
• Repaired two computer stands in police cars.
• Repaired wing on mower deck, adjusted PTO belts, and sharpened blades on the Parks
Department's mower.
• Replaced front brakes, repacked front bearings, and machined rotors on the Parks van.
• Repaired elevator belt on the Elgin sweeper.
• Replaced fuel hose on the Tennant sweeper.
• Changed hydraulic filter on the Street Division's loader.
• Replaced defective shore station electrical plug-in and replaced light bulbs on the fire
truck.
• Held weekly safety meetings.
SANITARY/STORM SEWER DIVISON
• Continued video and jet cleaning of sewer lines Monday through. Thursday.
• Performed weekly maintenance of twenty-six lift stations each Friday.
• Held weekly safety meetings.
SOLID WASTE DIVISION
• Delivered G containers to new customers: 0-90 gallon, 4 -100 gallon, 2-400 gallon,
0-300 gallon.
• Repaired 4 containers: 2--- 90 gallon, 0 — 300 gallon, 2 — 400 gallon and responded to 8
violations.
• Delivered 300 gallon containers for the Parks & Recreation Department for various
summer activities.
• Continued weekly garbage service and alley cleanup.
• Continued pruning in City alleys.
• Held weekly safety meetings.
STREET DIVISION
• General operations and maintenance of City streets and alleys.
• Patched various alleys and streets throughout the City.
• Dug parking lot at Woodland Park. Hauled pit run to Woodland Park.
• Prepped trail at Summit Ridge.
• Hauled office supplies from Building Department to Lawrence Park.
• Patched new water service line for the Water Division.

WATER DIVISION
WA TER -PR OD UCTION & STORAGE:
• Produced 108 M gallons of water: 31 M gallons upper zone and 77 M gallons lower zone.
• Injected 328 gallons of sodium hypochlorite, 12% solution to maintain an average
chlorine residual of 0.33 PPM throughout the system.
• Continued daily monitoring of all pump stations and routine maintenance on all pumps,
motors, chlorination equipment, analyzers, grounds, buildings, controls, testing, water
sampling, and record keeping.
• Landscaped old cell phone site at Buffalo Hills.
• Contractor painted and repaired Noffsinger pump station and installed new windows.
Installed new locks at Noffsinger Spring pump station.
• Prepared Noffsinger Spring pump house for painting and sealing.
• Had new gutters installed at Noffsinger Springs, Buffalo Well, and Buffalo Booster
Station.
• Painted the trim at Noffsinger Springs.
• Worked at Armory Well trouble shooting electrical problems with relays and contactors.
WA TER CONSTR UCTION AND SYSTEM REPAIR:
• Tagged 21 delinquent accounts on the East Side of Kalispell.
• Meter maintenance and change out on going.
• Completed 172 work orders during the month May.

Montana, and at Costco on Hwy 93 North.
• Hauled old fire hydrants to Garner Auction.
• Cleaned the water warehouse.
• New meter installations - 166

• Held weekly safety meetings.
TRAFFIC SIGNS & SIGNALS DIVISON
• Continued regular maintenance of signals, signs, luminaires, barricades, sight
obstructions, Airport lighting, alley lighting.
• Replaced bulbs in traffic signal in Whitefish.
• Replaced missing "Stop" sign and pole at Financial Drive and Two Mile Drive.
• Spotted R/R crossing for the contractor to paint epoxy at 1'` Avenue East and Depot Park.
• Blocked various locations for parking: Funeral of fireman and the Library for
construction purposes.
• Fabricated five signs for the Parks Department.
• Placed traffic counters at West Reserve Drive and Stillwater Road. Completed counts and
tabulations.
• Painted yellow curbing in 00 block of 8"' Street East and 400 block of South Main.
• Replaced broken lighted bollard at I" Avenue West and Center Street. It was hit by a
school bus.
• Replaced four street name signs in the Willow Subdivsion.
• Blocked off Parkway Drive near the Jr. High School for DUI driving experience for FHS
students.
• Installed poles and breakaways for two loading zone signs by the Justice Center and one
yield sign at 1" Avenue EN and Lawrence Park Road.
• Installed "Permit" parking only on 2 a Avenue West in the 100 block on the east side per
City Ordinance.
• Installed poles and breakaways and "2 Hour" signs by Lions Park on the east side.
• Installed two "Children at Play" signs on 6"' Avenue WN by Washington Park per KPD.
• Per Parks Department request, painted seven arrows on asphalt in the pool parking lot in
VT wljdland Park.
• Weekly safety meetings held.
WASTEWATER TREATMENT DIVISION
• 170 Work orders were completed during the month of May.
• 453 Lab tests were performed during the month of May.
• 25 Loads of sludge were hauled during May.
• 109,380 pounds of bio-solids were pressed.
• Permit Report for April 2005: There were no permit violations. Total monthly flow was
83 million gallons; average daily flow was 2.8 million gallons, with a peak flow of 3.2
million gallons on April 13 `h
