Resolution 5500 - Grant Acceptance and Budget AppropriationCity of Kalispell Post Office Box 1997 -Kalispell, Montana 59903 Telephone: (406) 758-7701 Fax: (406) 758-7758 REPORT TO: Mayor Tammi Fisher and Kalispell City Council FROM: Michael Baker, Director of Parks & Recreation SUBJECT: 2010/2011 ARRA Urban Forestry Grant Award MEETING DATE: June 20, 2011 BACK GROUND: In 2009, the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation made available a total of $325,000 to Montana cities and towns interested in conducting innovative urban community forestry projects. The Kalispell Parks and Recreation department has been awarded a total of $109,087.30 through the original application and additional awards. DNRC has notified the city once again that a small amount of unspent funds ($500) are available. Kalispell Parks and Recreation will utilize the remaining funds for replacement plantings in locations where Dutch Elm Diseased trees were removed. To date, 101 diseased American Elms have been removed and disposed of and 71 replacement trees planted. Our existing service contracts with contractors will be utilized for the completion of the project. RECOMMENDATION: Accept resolution approving grant extension for $500. [:, AS '. :: BUDGET ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE PURPOSE OF ACCEPTANCE OF AN URBAN FORESTRY GRANT 11:_ ._ DO WHEREAS, on August 16, 2010, the City Council adopted Resolution 5444 adopting the annual appropriations of the City of Kalispell for fiscal year 2010-2011; and WHEREAS, on October 9, 2009, the City of Kalispell received an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Urban Forestry Grant through the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation and the US Forest Service in the amount of $93,500 to address Dutch Elm Disease in the City of Kalispell; and WHEREAS, in May, 2011 the City of Kalispell applied for and was awarded an additional $500 to complete additional work on the project; and WHEREAS, said funds available to the City were not appropriated pursuant to Section 7-6- 4271, and an increase of appropriation authority is needed. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KALISPELL AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. That the City Council hereby accepts an additional AR.R.A Urban Forestry Grant in the amount of $500, for a total grant award of up to $109,587.30. SECTION II. That the City Council hereby appropriates the additional sure. of $500 and directs the Finance Director to allocate said amount to expenditure code: 2602-43 6-46043 3-3 54.
