The current digital video recording system was purchased 10 years ago. Most of the current system has begun to fail and become unreliable. Compatible replacement equipment for repair of this system is no longer available. A functional video recording system is a legal requirement for evidentiary and prosecution purposes as well as for civil litigation defense. The new system is expected to function for at least 10 years. It is therefore eligible for inclusion in the Police Capital Improvement Plan funded by the Police Impact Fee fund. Currently the only projects listed in the Police Capital Improvement Plan are for expansion of office space which has recently been largely accomplished through grant funding. Funds are currently available in the Police Impact Fee fund to pay the purchase and installation costs of the new Digital Audio/Video System.
