Dear Sirs,
I am writing this letter to express my interest in the advertised position for the
Kalispell Architectural Review Board. I have lived here in the Flathead valley for the
last 10 years and so have experienced the tremendous growth in our community. I any an
architect by trade, and my background gives me a sense of how important good design is
to maintaining the character of a building, a neighborhood, and a community.
I earned a master's degree in Architecture in 1988 from. the University of
Nebraska. Following graduation, I was hired by an architectural firm in St. Louis,
Missouri and relocated there. I obtained Amy architectural license in Missouri in 1991, and
shortly afterwards began to work as a consultant for various architectural firms. This has
given rile a broad range of experience in diverse types of building projects. For the last
15 years I have consulted for a St. Louis architectural firm by the name of Engine House
#1, and have been involved in mostly renovation and historic rehab projects. My family
and I relocated to Kalispell in 2001 and I have been able to continue my consulting work
via computer.
I believe my design skills would be useful for the position you are looking to fill,
plus I bring some additional insights. Professionally, the work that I do often involves
something of a balancing act between maintaining the historic character of a building and
the practicalities of budget and functionality. I enjoy the kind of problem solving
required to make those projects successful and I believe those skills could be of value on
the Architectural Review Board.
