REPORT TO. Honorable Mayor Fisher and City Council FROM; Mike Baker, Director, Parrs and Recreation Jane Howington, City Manager SUBJECT. Recognition - Rosie Glesen/Serve Montana Awards MEETING DATE: February 22, 2011 BACKGROUND: The Governor's Office of Community Service and the Montana Commission on Community Service present every year an outstanding volunteer service award. Parks and Recreation is proud to announce our own "Rosie Glesen" has been selected to receive the "outstanding Community Volunteer" award for 2011. In Helena, on February 17, Rosie was presented this prestigious honor for her outstanding community volunteer service. Rosie is (82 years) young and has been volunteering for the Parks and Recreation Department for the last 10 years. She is our longest and most dedicated volunteer and the staff labels Rosie as "our Park Angel". Rosie averages 700 hours a year helping with making calls to our youth program coaches, helping prepare equipment, handles office recyclables, run the time clock and down marker at football games, making copies and stuffing envelopes for mailing projects. Also, nearly every day, Rosie patrols for litter at one or more city parks- woodland, Lawrence, and Depot Parks. Rosie is armed with gloves and extension tongs, and deftly tosses all manner of litter into a kitchen -style garbage can that she mounted on a cart with bungle cords. Rosie has said, "I'll do this work until I can't walk anymore or until they tell me `you're too old." The City of Kalispell would like to recognize Rosie Glesen for her dedicated community service. Respectively submitted, Mike Baker Director, Parks and Recreation C( Jane Howington City Manager
