SUBJECT: Award Bid — 2011 Sidewalk and Curbing Project
MEETING DATE: April 4, 2011
BACKGROUND: Each year the City prepares a bid for construction of sidewalks and curbing
throughout the City. This bid provides the contractual baseline for the individual_ replacement
and infill sidewalk projects that are completed by the City utilizing the City's 50150 sidewalk
replacement program. Bids were received from Sandon Construction Company Inc. and Apex
Contracting Inc. In order to properly analyze the bids, typical project costs were computed for
installation of 250 square feet of residential sidewalk replacement, 250 square feet of residential
infill sidewalk, and 250 square feet of downtown business frontage sidewalk. These typical
project costs are summarized in the attached bid analysis. Sandon Construction Company Inc. is
the low bidder in all categories.
RECOMMENDATION: Award the 2011 Sidewalk and Curbing Project to Sandon
Construction Company, Inc.
ACTION REQUESTED: AT THE CITY COUNCIL. MEETING OF APRIL 4, 2011,
MOTION TO AWARD THE 2011 SIDEWALK AND CURBING PROJECT TO SANDON
CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, INC.

This contract is designed to assist property owners wishing to replace or construct new infill sidewalks
adjacent to their property utilizing the 50150 cost sharing program. The 50150 cost sharing program
was established by the City Council to encourage sidewalk replacement and sidewalk infill
construction by equally dividing the cost between the City and the property owner, The City has
$20,654 remaining in the current budget for 50/50 sidewalk work. A $25,000 appropriation is
requested for the 2011/2012 fiscal year.
Bids for Sidewalk and Curbing Construction for the year ending December 31, 2011 were opened on
Thursday, March 24, 2011. Bids were received from Sandon Construction Company Inc. and Apex
Contracting Inc. All bids were in order and contained the required. Bid Bond.
