May 26, 1987
The Committee met in City Hall Council Chambers on Tuesday, May 26, 1987 at
4:00 P.M., all members were present. Chairman Ed Brannon introduced Keith
Engebretson as the new member of the Commission.
As first order of business, the current over -run of caterpillars was
discussed, arriving at the conclusion that the best way would be to let the
infestation run its course.
Under Sub -committee business, Brannon reported on his meeting with the
Parking Commission regarding upgrading the downtown parking lots and the
mixed reaction to the proposals of landscape architect Bruce Lutz.
Councilman Manning questioned if the timing was right for such proposals.
No conclusions were reached -further discussions will be held with the
involved agencies.
Al Martinson reported for the Selection & Planning Committee. Third Avenue
East will still be the prime area for a demonstration project for mature
trees. Several areas were discussed for the project for new plantings,
with Montana Street and several blocks along Center Street across from the
new mall to be further considered.
Tax Increment Funding and the need to come up with some figures for budget
purposes were discussed. This Sub -committee will meet on Thursday, May 28th
at Daylight Donuts to take a closer look at the proposed projects.
• Councilman Manning pointed out the need for a new ladder truck for the Parks
Department. The support of the Shade Tree Commission will be needed at the
budget hearing on this expenditure.
The next meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 30th at 4:00 P.M. at
4:00 P. M. Today's meeting adjourned at 5:25 P. M.
