On December 10, 1996, representatives from MDT met with the
City of Kalispell personnel to discuss the various
intersection alternatives proposed by Forsgren Associates.
Below are listed the preferred alternates along with
additional comments for each intersection.
Airport Road
1. Prefer Exhibit B.
2. Add sidewalks 100 feet back, on both sides, on
Airport Road. Tie into the existing sidewalk in areas.
1st Avenue East
1. Prefer Exhibit C.
2. City would like the pork chop adjusted to make it
easier for the southbound left turn; cut back the south
corner of the pork chop.
3. Tire -Rama is locating to the SE corner.
18th Street
1. Prefer Exhibit D.
2. Add sidewalks 100 feet back on both sides on 18th
Street.
3. Add 8-foot shoulders to roadway. Both MDT and City
personnel felt this would be a major intersection in the
future, especially with the new hotel -restaurant complex
planned on the SE corner.
4. Consultant should contact City (John Wilson) for
information on the storm sewer.
3rd Avenue
1. Prefer Exhibit E (Alternate 1). City prefer
Exhibit E, but modified to all the easy right turn, like
Airport Road.

2. The approach on the west side should be moved
across from 3rd Ave. entrance.
3. The 3rd Ave. access could change drastically if the
large development on the west side materializes. In that
case the 3rd Ave. entrance might have to be adjusted to fit
the west side approach.
4. The City would like more analysis of Kelly Road
entrance, especially in light of the large development
planned.
Twin Acres Drive
1. MDT preferred Exhibit H, however, the City says the
west side to Twin Acres Drive does not exist. Need to check
with MDT Maintenance to see if approach permit was ever
issued for west access.
2. If the west access does not exist,•the intersection
is greatly simplified.
Cemetery Road
1. Prefer Exhibit M, even though it would involve
removing a new house.
2. Both MDT and City assume that this intersection
will be signalized.
