I 1. Adopt Greers Neighborhood Plan and recommendations: a. Busy general aviation airport would remain open b. Benefit approximately 60 local pilots and an undetermined number of out of town pilots c. improved safety as a result of improvements to the airport facility d. relocation of the sports facilities away from airport e. undetermined community economic benefit from the operation of the airport. f. creation of limited commercial opportunity along hwy 193 g. opportunity to promote compatible land uses around airport h. opportunity to create airport authority and/or consider selling or leasing facility to private sector. Cost a. Significant capital cost both short and long term related to recommended improvements. approx $500,000 relocation of recreation facilities and $490,000 for airport improvements as per study b. cost to purchase property south end of existing runway for extension of runway unknown. c. General liability associated with operating an airport of this type inside the city d. Revenue short fall for proper maintenance and operation of the airport e. public subsidy required for both operation and capital improvements f. Airport does not qualify for FAA funding assistance g. previous improvement recommendations for the airport never followed creating problems for todays operations 2. option two would close the airport and convert property to some other use. Benefit a. Liability goes away b. Convert all property to a higher and better use c. General aviators desiring to land aircraft in the area would be required to use Glacier International d. property returned to the tax rolls e. no need to invest public funds for capital improvements to the airport Cost a. No local airport for local use b. City would have to buy out lease hold improvements/cost unknown c. FBO's might suffer some economic loss d. possible economic loss to surrounding business e. job loss to those employed by the FBOs f. Negative impact on the local pilots who use the airport 9.
