Dear Mr. Ross:
Your letter of April 26, 1986, addressed to Mr. Paul Doolittle of radio
station KGEZ and the letter of Mr. Doolittle to Kathy Paul of the Federal
Aviation Administration was called to my attention. Mr. Doolittle's 1_ett.-1-
may have given you some false impressions of KGEZ, and if so, I want to
eliminate such impressions.
Mr. Doolittle is a consulting and part-time engineer for radio station KGEZ.
He has no ownership interest. He has advised the owners of the station of
the action taken by some parties objecting to the lighting on the station
towers. He further advised the owners: that strobe lights are very expen-
sive to install; they are very expensive to maintain; and, they are less
effective as warning signals.
The owners of the radio station do not have any interest in or desire to
remove or close the city airport or interfere in its management or operation
The station's business is to prmote, advertise, encourage and assist every
legitament business in our service area and that has been the practice and
policy of the station for more than 50 years and that station does have a
very enviable ,record of public service to the community.
The station and its management do have to consider the problems of existance
in the competitive climate now existing in Flathead County. The skyrocketin(
costs of operating in the face of severe competition creates a constant
struggle for survival. For that reason this station will certainly resist
any movement that will add the costs of placing strobe lights on the towers.
If there is a visibility problem and there is some other economical way to
provide better lighting, the management will certainly consider it.
The important point that I want to call to your attention is that the statioi
does not have any arguement with the airport operators or any objection to
it. We want it to continue and we wish it the best of success and we hope
that it remains a successful operating part of our communityJ: that is our
business. I did not see Mr. Doolittle's et er be e it was mailed and if
I had, most of its contents would have b en lim bated.
