02/24/93 Greer/Cost Estimates24 February 1993 Lawrence Gallagher Planning, Economic, & Community Development City of Kalispell 248 3rd Ave. East Kalispell, Mt 59901 RE: COST ESTIMATES TO IMPLEMENT AIRPORT MASTER PLAN Dear Larry: Some of the costs for implementation of the Kalispell City Airport Neighborhood Plan1will be di * fficult to quantify due to alternative approaches that may be available to accomplish particular objectives. For example, land acquisition for runway extension may be possible by either direct purchase or by trading of land or services. Easements to protect "obstacle" surfaces may be possible in lieu of land purchases. Private sector donations of time, machinery, and material can also be expected relative to runway/apron paving and fencing. Some examples of "hard" costs that do not consider in -kind donations are as follows: *PAPI navigational system: $18-20 thousand installed. *A six foot chain link fence with 3-121 gates: $5.20 per lineal foot installed (11,3511). *Runway extension with an "airport" asphalt mix: ;t: $22 sq yrd including all costs for excavation, hauling, bed preparation, grading, and 2 asphalt lifts (7151 to 11151 x 601). These and the necessary land acquisition costs appear to be the big ticket items. Some of these improvements can be phased -in over an extended period of time as indicated in the plan. Various revenue sources are also cited in the plan. I will continue to offer any additional assistance that you may need to properly address the economic inquires of the city council.
