undated Brechel to Council/Fair Playing FieldAfter reading that some inthe city council are willing to make an exception toour
existing city sign ordinance to a large developer angers me to see that all the time and
expense that has been spent for "GOOD PLANNING" has once again been a waist
because Big Money has come to town. There are many of us in small business that
could have benefited from larger signage to advertise our business only to have been
told that our City Ordinance does not allow it. When asked if any allowances could be
made, we were told that there was an ordinance in place and we must follow it. But
when an outside developer comes to town and gives the Council an ultimatum to either
allow them double the si8D@Qe0[Oodevelopment the Council once again drops Uotheir
knees and bows to their demands. This whole thing smells to Ol8 and | GrDwilling to bet
that if this developer is allowed to control the Council and be void of the laws that the
rest of us must abide bythey will have @ bit 0f8 fight to put up with. It is time the City
Council be responsible for their own actions and keep all business on the same playing
field, be they large or small.

Dear Council member:
The above letter has been sent tothe Daily Interlake and the Whitefish Pilot and was
expressed in the kindest manor that | @Dl able to express. | would urge you p|e8S8
consider the many business people of this city who have been told that there are no
exceptions the City Sign {}njiO@OCe. By 8||OvviOg this developer to circumvent the |@vv'
you are allowing him todevelop, make @ bundle Ofmoney and then leave the area not
caring one iota about this city. You are in effect giving many new business' none of
whom you even know who or what they are, the freedom to double the legal signage and
they donot even have t0apply for it . The only reason the developer has given you for
the extra SigO3QBiS"they want itV[8|sg". The rest Ufusare left tOcompete with those
business that receive the privilege oflarger sigO8Qethen those Ofuswho have been
here for many y88FS, h3||OVVed the laws and supported this city. H8y, vv8want i1t0 but
guess what, too bad. You were elected tObenefited this city, not play favorites. VVahave
Doqualms with orderly expansion and competition. VVe just demand 8fair playing field
and expect all OgvvCnnle[S to follow the Sa08 [u|88, nagU|GtiODS and /@m/S that we must
follow. VVehave seen other Councils iDthe past grant new developers special privileges
including waiving regulations and it has made it a contributing factor for some existing
business to fail. I have heard one of the Council members shrug this off saying "to bad,
h8wasn't 8very good hUSiOesS0@D" That could betrue but when VV8have tocompete
against other business and the City Council, it makes life more difficult. You were put
here hopefully to help existing business, please dOyour job fairly.
Sincerely,
Mark Brechel
