Environmental Quality (DEQ) or the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation:

preparing the report for the NuPac industrial well. The procedure used is consistent with
Section 36.21.670 Permanent Abandonment of the Administrative Rules of Montana.
4. Buried drums were purported to occur on the MDT property according to the Phase I

Subject: No Further Corrective_ Action Required for the Petroleum Release at NuPak, 2355
Highway 93 North, Kalispell, MT; Facility ID #15-01349, Release #4083.
Dear Mr. Lynch:
The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Petroleum Release Section (PRS) has reviewed
information associated with a petroleum release at the above -referenced location. Based on the available
information, it appears that the corrective action was proper and that no further investigation or cleanup
activities are needed. You may still be responsible for any damages not yet identified resulting from leaks,
spills, or improper closure of the tank(s).
The decision that no.further corrective action is required is based on laboratory analytical results which
clearly indicate that soil samples obtained within the tank basin indicate all constituents of concern are
either ND or well below DEQ action standards. It does not appear there is a threat to human health or to
the environment.
The DEQ-PRS will maintain your "release" file so that if you need any information in the future or new
problems with your site arise, it can be accessed easily. If you still have outstanding permit requirements
or fees due, you will be contacted separately by the Technical Services Bureau's Environmental Services
Section..
If you have any questions concerning this letter please contact this office at (406) 755-8985, ext. 5. The
DEQ-PRS appreciates your cooperation concerning corrective action requirements.
Sincerely,

Subject: No Further Corrective Action Required for the Petroleum Release at Pack and Company, 2355

Dear Mr. Lynch:
The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Petroleum Release Section (PRS) has reviewed information

that the corrective action was proper and that no further investigation or cleanup activities are needed. You may still
be responsible for any damages not yet identified resulting from leaks, spills, or improper closure of the tank(s).
The decision that no further corrective action is required is based on the depth of the well which at 70' below ground
surface was found to be "dry" on two occasions, August 2001 and May 2002. In addition, the soil boring log
indicates non -detect for petroleum hydrocarbons throughout the soil column. It does not appear there is a threat to
human health or to the environment.
The DEQ-PRS will maintain your "release" file so that if you need any information in the future or new problems
with your site arise, it can be accessed easily. If you still have outstanding permit requirements or fees due, the
Technical Services Bureau's Environmental Services Section will contact you separately.
