Kukulski, City Manager Monthly Activity Report for .fames Hansz, Public Works February 19, 2004 Highlights of monthly activity for the operating divisions of the Public Works Department for the month of January 2004 are as follows: ENGINEERING DIVISION • Continued preparation of WWTP PER and conducted public hearing on draft document. • Provided orientation briefing and community tour for new members of City Council. • Met with representatives of Greenacres to review proposed PER for their utility system. • Advertised RFP for WWTP sludge disposal. • Continued support of utility engineering coordination process for Highway 93 and Meridian Road projects. • Began preparation of 2004/05 budget materials. • Continued engineering for Meridian Road Project and began developing information to present to state Highway Commission in support of additional funding for project. • Continued work with consultant performing design for U.S. 93 and Grandview Drive sewage pumping station reconstruction. • Continued coordination with consultant performing water system vulnerability assessment. • Continue to work with consultant to adapt our current Record Drawing database to an information retrieval software that has a search engine that is easier to use. • Continue to work with FVCC work/study survey student to assist with Record Drawing database and draft 2003 utility expansions in digital base mapping. • Finish updating and drafting street/road names for 18 '/2 sections added to digital base mapping in 2003. • Responded to miscellaneous survey requests. • Opened bids for El Dorita Sewage Lift Station Replacement project. • Continued utility coordination with developer's consultant for the Spring Prairie Development. ENGINEERING DIVISION continued... • Approved construction plans and specifications for Blue Heron Subdivision, Phase 2, and Glacier Village Greens Subdivision, Phase 20 & 21. • Four of the staff attended a gcotechnical fabric and asphalt paving seminar. OFFICE AND STAFF There were 29 emergency call -outs for the month of January: ■ Water Division — 7 ■ Sewer Division — 4 ■ TSS Division — 0 " Street Division - 15 ■ WWTP - 3 ■ Total — 29 CENTRAL GARAGE 103 Repair orders were completed during the month of January: ■ Police — 14 ■ Streets — 31 ■ Fire —13 ■ Garbage - 16 ■ Others _ 29 ■ Total — 103 • Continued regular maintenance of City vehicles and machinery. • Continue to change City vehicles over to snow tires. • Replaced filters, primer, and transfer pump on 140G Grader. • Repaired fuel leak on Water Division's backhoe. • Replaced tires on Water Division pickup. • Repaired drive chains on snow blower. • Built and installed new tailgate on Street Division sander. • Replaced injection pump on Street Division loader. • Replaced broom drive shaft in Parks' Department ice sweeper. • Repaired wiring short in Water Division's tandem. • Replaced air relay valves in Fire engine. • Replaced hydraulic pump on garbage truck. • Replaced locking hubs on plow jeep. • Repaired exhaust on Fire Department Jimmy. • Repaired primer valve on fire engine. • Rebuilt drive mechanism on Park's snow blower. • Replaced plow frame mount and rebuilt hydraulic mounts on Park's Department John Deere plow. • Fabricated and rebuilt blower tine on Street Division's snow blower. • Held weekly safety meetings. SANITAR YIS TORM SE WER DIVISON • Continued video and jet cleaning of sewer lines Monday through Thursday. • Performed weekly maintenance of sixteen lift stations each Friday. • Held weekly safety meetings. SOLID WASTE DIVISION • Delivered 11 containers to new customers: 0--90 gallon, 7-100 gallon, 0-400 gallon, 4-300 gallon. • Repaired 6 containers: 3 — 90 gallon, 1 300 gallon, 2— 400 gallon and responded to 7 violations. • Continued weekly garbage service and alley cleanup. • Assisted Street Division with snow hauling. • Continued pruning in City alleys. • Held weekly safety meetings. STREET .DIVISION • General operations and maintenance of City streets and alleys. • Various cold mix patching on City streets. • Assisted the Parks Department with the removal of Christmas trees. • Ongoing snow removal and deicing of City streets. • Removed snow from parking areas. • Held weekly safety meetings. WATER DIVISION WATER PRODUCTION & STORAGE: r Produced 73 M gallons of water: 14 M gallons upper zone and 59 M gallons lower zone. • Injected 255 gallons of sodium hypochlorite, 12% solution to maintain an average chlorine residual of 0.29 PPM throughout the system. • Continued daily monitoring of all pump stations and routine maintenance on all pumps, motors, chlorination equipment, analyzers, grounds, buildings, controls, testing, water sampling, and record keeping. • Completed 2004-2005 budget proposals. • Completed annual report to DEQ concerning Noffsinger Springs. • Repaired C12 pump at Grandview Well. • Replaced CL2 feed line at Depot Well. • Set up sample schedule for year 2004. WATER CONSTRUCTION AND SYSTEM REPAIR: • Tagged 62 delinquent accounts on the East Side of Kalispell. • Meter maintenance and change out on going. • Completed 58 work orders during the month January. • Continue to fill fire hydrants. • Assisted with snow removal. • Repaired main break at 1214 5`h Street West. • Held weekly safety meetings. TRAFFIC SIGNS & SIGNALS DIVISON • Continued regular maintenance of signals, signs, luminaires, barricades, sight obstructions, Airport lighting, alley lighting. • Tested Opticozn system at all intersections. • Replaced #120 HPS street light. (Original bulb installed in 1985 — it lasted 18 years). • Changed #116 HPS on West Center Street. • Installed lift wheel on old Street Department air compressor. • Replaced a few "Stop" signs that were knocked down by vehicles during the recent snow storms. • Replaced three faded "Stop" signs in the NW side. • Installed the "March for Life" banner. • Checked status on banner guy wires and poles that are going to be removed this June or July by MDT reconstruction of Hwy 93 South and 121" Street. Inquired about reader board installation and costs. • Barricaded for a motor vehicle accident on Hwy 93 North and Heritage Way. • Started installing lane usage signs on 1" Avenue West on the signal arms installed on • 1-20-04. • Finished installing lane usage signs on Ise Avenue West at the signalized intersections. • Installed new sync program at I" Avenue West and 4`h Street West and I" Avenue West and 2"d Street West. • Installed used parts in County flasher at West Valley Drive and West Reserve Drive. • Weekly safety meetings held. WASTEWATER TREATMENT DIVISION • 153 Work orders were completed during the month of January. • 397 Lab tests were performed during the month of January. • 20 Loads of sludge were hauled during January. 108,200 pounds of bio-solids were pressed. • Permit Report for December 2003: There were no permit violations. The total month flow was 71 million gallons with an average daily flow of 2.3 million gallons. The highest monthly flow was 2.5 million gallons.
