Re: comments (2)Thank you for your email.....our property was the Scarff Auto (old Korn
Buick) property and the adjacent lot south of it which runs the whole
block E. to West. We do of course have many yard lights to highlight
cars on the paved lot outside the building.......Could the plans extend
further south so as not to include already established business
buildings in the "Airport Affected Area"?
Thanks again for your time, I do realize that you are busy as well,
Sincerely,
Danlynne K. Smith

Danlynne:
Your property is most likely included in what is called the
“Airport Affected Area” around the airport. This Ordinance was mandated
by the State Legislature to protect airports by limiting the height of
buildings around airports and limiting the height of natural barriers
like trees. Until I can actually identify your exact boundaries I
cannot give you an idea about the limitations on your property. The
only limitation will be a height limitation and maybe some bright light
limitations. The airport will purchase the necessary property for
upgrade on the south end of its current property. As I said previously,
we would like to move the new runway a 1,000’ south of its current
location for safety reasons and noise abatement.

Mr. Leistiko,
Thank you for your prompt reply.
Do I understand you correctly that even though the our
property is included in the airport protection zone, it is only a safety
zone and will not be sought for purchase by the airport?
What are the limitations for our property as far as development
and buildings are concerned?
I certainly appreciate your answering my email.
Thank you so much.

Danlynne:
Your comments are excellent comments and well meaning.
There is only one problem with your assessment. The Airport is planned
to upgrade to the south, not the north. The main runway will be moved
nearly 1,000’ south of its current location to move it, and the traffic
pattern, further south. This is planned for two reasons, safety and
noise abatement. This will mean that there will be a large protection
zone on the north end of the runway between 18th Street and the runway
approach end. We designed it that way to make it much safer for all
concerned. Your property will only be positively affected by the
change. If I can be of further assistance, or if you would like to see
the new airport layout plan, please don’t hesitate in giving me a call.
