RE: Information RequestSteve:
The figures come from the FAA 5010 Report done by the Montana State
Aeronautics. We do not compile the report here at the airport. I must
only assume the people responsible for the reporting use information
based on the 73 aircraft that are based here, the training that goes on
at the flight school, FAA flight plans filed in and out of the airport
with the FAA, or they make an educated guess. I have been told that the
FAA sometimes uses an acoustical instrument that records the sound of
aircraft taking off and landing similar to the ones used to count
traffic on a highway. Glacier Park International records almost the
same amount each month as we do in an entire year. GPI figures are
published in the Flathead Beacon each month. You might ask them how
they get their numbers. We take the figures off the annual report each
year published by the FAA. They also use these figures for calculating
where they should spend their funds, I'm sure. We use the figures to
judge the wear and tear on the runway in a year. It is one way to judge
the need for runway maintenance and upkeep.
Hope this help. Remember, a training flight could caulk up a lot of
take offs and a lot of landings in one hour.

Help Help Please--
I'm a F/T resident in Bigfork , having a bunch of questions about the
article in the Interlake on
12/4 this year.. pg A4 -- ( Getting educated about our airport) ---
Very leery as to whether anyone will reply , but here is the basic
question--
Where is the data verifying 43000 takeoffs/landings- ?
I am unable to access the site supposedly supporting that number.... and
quite frankly , of many
local residents here I chat with, we all find that number very
questionable/out of reach.---
Would you be kind enough to direct us to the supporting
data/agency/dept/etc. so we can all
be comfortable with that 43000 number----- just pure math , taking into
consideration the non
flying days due to weather ( maybe 120 days) leaves 245 days into 43000
= 175 per day ?
None of us can believe it possible....and all of us pass the AP at least
once a week ! ?
Looking forward to a reply...thx for your time,
Sincerely---- Steve Saville
