Mark Your Calendars - Polar Explorer to Visit Kalispell!!
Hello All,
I wanted to inform you of a special event in place of our February
meeting. Tell anyone you know....it will be on the radio and advertised
elsewhere.
A true expedition in the making. A bona fide explorer in our midst -
soon. DON'T MISS IT!!
Art Mortvedt, a member of The Explorers Club, and a veteran of more
than 5000 hours of extreme arctic flying, 20+ trips to Antarctica and 6
seasons of scientific logistics in the North Polar ice pack will present
a free lecture, slide show, and Polar Pumpkin "show and tell" in
Kalispell on February 25th.
Art will discuss his April 2010 attempt to land his Cessna 185, a.k.a.
Polar Pumpkin at the North Pole, thus becoming the first person to land
the same single engine plane, the Pumpkin, at both Poles.
As he flies across the Arctic ice, Art will be working with microbial
scientists to collect laser images of life in the ice, a technique that
may be used in planetary exploration. The Polar Pumpkin will accompany
Art to Kalispell.
The public is invited to attend the evening lecture @ 6:30 p.m. at
Hangar A-5 at the Kalispell City Airport on February 25th. Attendance is
FREE.
DIRECTIONS TO HANGAR A-5: South on Airport Road. Left on Water Treatment
Road. Left through the electronic gates into the Airport, then immediate
left to fourth row of hangars.
Come Visit with Art Mortvedt!!!
