My wife and I are the owners of Alpine Lighting. I would be serving as a representative of the current owner of the Henry Good building, Bill Wyckman. My wife and I will be purchasing the real estate next year, mid 2004. We are also looking into additional downtown properties. I was born into a large local family and grew up walking around downtown Kalispell_ I have a strong desire to not just preserve downtown, but to advance it to something that we can all be proud to shop at and walk around. The days of Alton Pierce, Torbert's, Gamble"s, etc. may be long gone, but the entrepreneur's spirit that built downtown is still alive and well. New malls and strip shopping will bring national chains and homogenized products for the masses, but downtown will continue to thrive with options for the discriminating consumer. Please consider me for a position on the BID board. I did not apply earlier in the fall as I didn't realize how very important this Board will be to downtown. Laving had a shop in Whitefish for years, we bought the building at 132 Main and opened our second Imagination Station just 2 years ago, so the neighborhood politics were still new to me. Then in November I volunteered to organize a downtown advertising campaign. Over 3 weeks I stopped into almost every business within the BID district. You might have seen or heard some of our ads as we collected enough to run on two t,v. and four radio stations this month outlining the many types of shops and services downtown. You can imagine the questions and comments that I opened myself to as I got to know my downtown neighbors. They are quite a diverse group and there is some work that will need to happen to bring them together beyond the quick campaign that we are currently running. The person hired by the BID Board will need to be a special person, one both diplomatic and skilled in marketing. I would like to be a part of the hiring of that person. I have heard many opposing opinions on downtown and perhaps I can convey them to help the BID work more cohesively.
