Dear Mayor & Council Members;
Regarding the proposed pay raise for Mayor & Council:
Nothing says "public service" quite like politicians voting to double their own pay and benefits while
calling it "'compensation."
These were never meant to be taxpayer -funded career positions. Past councilors understood that.
Some even declined the stipend and health insurance because they still possessed something
apparently in short supply today: a sense of public duty.
But now it's no longer "we the people." It's "'we over the people"with taxpayers expected to
bankroll the council's growing appetite for more.
If Kalispell has money to throw around, give it to the cops and firefighters who protect this city and
risk their lives —not elected officials who seem to have confused public service with a self -approved
compensation package.
Public service isn't supposed to be a reward you vote yourself.
