Hi Merna,
Thankyou foryour comment. Reducing the cost of building homes is certainly a consideration
when addressing affordability and it has been my expectation that the advisory committee would
consider that aspect of affordability as part of their work, provided that we are also maintaining the
safety, walkability and best practice standards of new neighborhoods. I encourage you to share any
ideas you may have for reducing building costs with the committee, staff and the City Council as we
develop the affordable housing plan.
As I believe you are aware, city staff is currently reviewing a proposal to improve landscaping
requirements to improve efficiencies. This was a direct result of listening to feedback from the
building community and at some point I expect it will come before City Council for consideration.
