Unsafe Drinking Water Crisis Public Comment by Russell SiasThe Unsafe Drinking Water Crisis and What Is Getting Into the Supply A new National Bureau of Economic Research working paper analyzed 266 million water -quality measurements spanning multiple decades, covering 1,250 pollutants across 48 states. The conclusion: drinking water for 10 to 20 percent of Americans violates safety standards. That's tens of millions of people. The Safe Drinking Water Act, passed in 1974, authorizes the EPA to set minimum health standards for tap water. But U.S. industry uses more than 42,000 chemicals — and the Safe Drinking Water Act regulates only 90 of them. The gap between what's in American water and what Washington is tracking is not a minor oversight. The CDC estimates that drinking -water pathogens cause 7 million illnesses annually. Health effects linked to water contamination include pregnancy complications and low infant birth weights. That last detail matters. Pro -life advocates including Students for Life of America have been petitioning the EPA to expand its water contaminant tracking list — specifically to include metabolites from mifepristone, the abortion pill now being shipped by mail into homes and communities across the country. Fourteen state attorneys general have backed that petition, Nineteen members of Congress have called on the EPA to act. Doctors and environmentalists have joined the call. The EPA has not responded. Charlotte Lozier Report Exposes 64 Online Abortion Pill Vendors Violating FDA Safety Limits While Washington debates what to track in the water, the Charlotte Lozier Institute just documented what the abortion industry is doing without any oversight at all. A new CLI report analyzed online abortion pill sellers and found that 81 percent of them are shipping mifepristone to women whose pregnancies exceed the FDA's I 0-week safety limit. That's 64 vendors openly violating federal safety guidelines. Ten of those vendors received FDA warning letters in 2019 for selling unapproved and misbranded drugs — and they are still active, still breaking the law. Eight online -only organizations are mailing abortion pills directly into pro -life states that have banned them, in direct violation of state law and the federal Comstock Act. Eighteen foreign -based sites require no identification before ordering. "The Wild West of online abortion drug access should serve as a wake-up call to policymakers," said Mia Steupert, CLI research associate and author of the report. The abortion industry loves to say abortion is healthcare. Healthcare follows rules. This industry follows none. FDA Mifepristone Review Delayed a Year as Abortion Pill Industry Operates Unchecked Kennedy's September 2025 promise has become a running source of frustration for every pro -life senator watching the clock. The FDA has been "actively working" on it ever since — that's the official line. Now, members of Congress are being told to expect the review to be completed by September 2026 — a full year after the promise was made. Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri isn't waiting quietly. He has demanded answers from the FDA and called out the agency publicly for dragging its feet while the abortion pill industry operates without restraint. Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, chairman of the Senate health committee, was more direct: "We already know chemical abortions kill babies and endanger women. The Trump administration needs to stop dragging their feet and immediately reinstate the in - person requirement." The Ethics and Public Policy Center found that more than I in 10 women experience sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging, or hospitalization within 45 days of a chemical abortion — a rate 22 times higher than what the FDA has publicly reported. Seven in 10 American voters say they don't think it's safe for abortion drugs to be sent through the mail, according to a McLaughlin and Associates poll. The FDA's review — if it ever finishes — could restore the in -person dispensing requirement that Biden eliminated in 2023. Until it does, 64 vendors keep shipping pills past the safety limit, 8 keep mailing into pro -life states, and the EPA still isn't tracking what ends up in the water. The government spent $2 trillion and still can't guarantee safe drinking water after 50 years. Sen. Cassidy named the standard. The FDA needs to meet it.
