Subject: EXTERNAL Friday night cruising
Dear Mayor and Council,
I read in this morning's Daily Interlake that you are revisiting the Main Street Cruising on
Friday nights. Last year my husband and I went out for dinner at Bonelli's restaurant. The
noise from the cruising was overwhelming. We could not get out of there fast enough and
skipped the plan to get ice cream at Sweet Peaks. We have not been back to downtown
Kalispell restaurants on Friday nights since. I can understand the desire to have a place for
people to gather downtown and show off their old cars and visit, and if that all it was, it would
be tolerable. However, the reckless driving and the noise from the big trucks are a deterrent to
anyone wanting to have a pleasant meal or to shop downtown or to even cross the street. I
can't imagine what it must be like for residents on the East and West sides listening to this all
night.
It seems there is interest in having a thriving, lively downtown. There has been considerable
investment in the Parkline Trail to encourage people to come downtown. The cruising fiasco
downtown undermines the effort to create a pleasant place for people to walk, eat and shop
on Friday nights. I appreciate your efforts to find a solution to this. I would like to be able to
enjoy a meal downtown and to feel safe crossing the street without engines revving and the
occasional "coal rolling".
Sincerely,
Sally Cameron -Russell
