SUBJECT: Appointment to the Architectural Review Committee
MEETING DATE: May 18, 2026
BACKGROUND: The Architectural Review Committee was first created in 2010 and most
recently modified in 2021, as codified in Kalispell code 27.21.020. The Committee was
established to encourage originality, flexibility and innovation in site planning and development.
The Mayor, with the approval of Council shall appoint at least five persons, with qualifications
including, but not limited to, special education, training, or experience in financing of commercial
real property, architecture, historic preservation, or landscape architecture; active engagement in
business, commerce or industry; and/or education, training or experience in the area of graphic or
allied arts. Whenever possible, the mayor shall appoint individuals who are either property
owners, residents, historic preservation specialists, or actively engaged in business or employment
in the city. Seven ARC members has been considered a full Committee.
This Committee has one ongoing vacancy for a term expiring April 30, 2029. One new
application has been received.
RECOMMENDATION: Mayor Hunter recommend the appointment of Paul Ronald Gerson to
the Architectural Review Board, and that City Council subsequently move to confirm the
appointment.

I've been interested in architecture my entire life. I come from a family of architects
(Germany, Canada, USA) and have worked on designing houses in my youth. If i hadn't
studied agriculture at college i would've studied architecture.
Detail any education, knowledge, or experience you have which would be beneficial to this board, committee
or commission:
In Brasil, back in the 1970's, i designed two private homes together with my girlfriend, who
was an architecture student at the time. At least one of them was built, perhaps both.
My grandfather (and his brother) were renowned architects in Hamburg, Germany, in the
early part of the 20th century and many of their buildings and residences are still standing,
