Request for Pedestrian-Controlled Crossing at River View Dr and Whitefish Stage Rd Public Comment from Jennifer Nelson Aimee Brunckhorst From: Jennifer Nelson <jmae.nelson@gmail.com> Sent: Thursday, May 7, 2026 7:31 AM To: Kalispell Meetings Public Comment Subject: EXTERNAL Request for Pedestrian-Controlled Crossing at River View Dr and Whitefish Stage Rd Dear Members of the Kalispell City Council, I am writing to respectfully request consideration for the installation of a pedestrian-activated crossing signal at the intersection of River View Drive and Whitefish Stage Road. This intersection serves as a primary route for children traveling to and from Edgerton Elementary School. During school hours in particular, there is a noticeable increase in pedestrian activity, including young students who must navigate a busy roadway with limited crossing protection. Families in the area have growing concerns about safety, especially given recent observations of drivers exceeding posted speed limits and failing to stop for children attempting to cross. In addition to its importance as a school route, this location is situated within a highly walkable,family-friendly neighborhood. Residents frequently walk, jog, and bike between nearby neighborhoods, making pedestrian traffic consistently present throughout the day. However, vehicle traffic on Whitefish Stage Road often moves quickly, and safe opportunities for pedestrians to cross are limited. A pedestrian-controlled crossing signal would greatly improve safety and accessibility for all users. It would provide a reliable and visible way for pedestrians—especially children—to cross safely while also helping to alert drivers and encourage compliance with traffic laws.Addressing the current issues with speeding and failure to yield would significantly enhance safety and peace of mind for families in the area. I appreciate your time and consideration of this request and encourage the City to evaluate this intersection for potential improvements.Thank you for your continued commitment to the safety and well-being of Kalispell residents. Sincerely, Jennifer Nelson Resident of Hillcrest Estates Area, Kalispell Phone 406-546-2469 i
