Dear Ms.Turner, Mayor Hunter&Councilman Waterman,
I am writing today regarding the traffic congestion and speeds on the east side of Kalispell due to
the water main replacement on Woodland Avenue.
Below is my email exchange with our Police Chief, whom I was referred to after calling the Project
Team number listed here on the city alert page. Chief Venezio recommended I reach out to Public
Works.
Today, /am writing regarding the increased traffic volume, speed, and larger vehicles being
redirected through the east side neighborhood due to the watermain replacement on
Woodland. While/support the city's investmentin improving our infrastructure, lam
concerned that the current situation poses a serious risk to pedestrians and residents, as
vehicles often speed through the streets/avenues orfail to stop at intersections.
/read and heard from neighbors that you have been urged to increase patrols, while this may
help, /understand your resources are limited. May/suggest considering installing temporary
speed bumps, as/have seen them used effectively in other communities. /f that is not
possible, perhaps heavy ropes could be placed across the road to deter speeding, as is done
in some parts of the world.
/work from home, and my office o verlooks the intersection of 5th Street and 5th A venue East.
Each day, /see parents walking their children to and from Hedges, residents walking their
dogs, and folks riding bikes or scooters through ourpeaceful neighborhood. /am sure you
agree it would be a tragedy if someone were injured.
I know I am not the first and won't be the last, as I am sure you will continue to hear from residents
throughout the project.
I am truly grateful for all the services that the city provides, from snow and leaf removal, garbage,
street cleaning,to personally always having a quick response to my request to have the "giant
vacuum truck" sent to suck up the water that pools on the corner of 5th St&5th Ave E in front of our
home. Ms.Turner,we are fortunate to have these and so many others. So thank you to you and your
teams.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my concerns.

Hi Amy,
We definitely understand the challenges of the additional road blockage at Woodland and the
impact on the neighborhood. Unfortunately, any changes in the roadway, such as speed bumps,
would need to go through the public works department. I would refer you to the public works
department for questions on what process they go through to decide on road or signage changes
during construction.
The police department will continue extra patrols in the area until the project wraps up. Thank you
for reaching out with your concerns.
Jordan

unacknowledged.
