SUBJECT: Appointments to the Architectural Review Committee
MEETING DATE: May 4, 2026
BACKGROUND: The Architectural Review Committee was first created in 2010 and most
recently modified in 2021, as codified in Kalispell code 27.21.020. The Committee was
established to encourage originality, flexibility and innovation in site planning and development.
The Mayor, with the approval of Council shall appoint at least five persons, with qualifications
including, but not limited to, special education, training, or experience in financing of commercial
real property, architecture, historic preservation, or landscape architecture; active engagement in
business, commerce or industry; and/or education, training or experience in the area of graphic or
allied arts. Whenever possible, the mayor shall appoint individuals who are either property
owners, residents, historic preservation specialists, or actively engaged in business or employment
in the city. Seven ARC members has been considered a full Committee.
This Committee has five vacancies after term expirations. One term expires April 30, 2028, one
term expires April 30, 2029, and three terms expire April 30, 2030. Three new applications have
been received, and one current member is re -applying and would prefer the term expiring April
30, 2028.
RECOMMENDATION: Mayor Hunter offer a recommendation to appoint applicants to the
Architectural Review Committee with stated term expirations. Council can then follow with a
motion to accept the recommendation and confirm the appointments or offer an alternative.

Why are you interested in serving this board, committee, or commission:
As someone who grew up in Kalispell, I am very interested in assisting the committee with
its mission to encourage originality, flexibility, and innovation. I also believe it is important
to improve the city while keeping a hold of the things that make Kalispell unique. I have an
appreciation for the history of the city and an understanding of its need to evolve and
improve as its population grows. I have a working knowledge of CAD programs and the
full Adobe Suite, including PhotoShop, InDesign, and more.
Detail any education, knowledge, or experience you have which would be beneficial to this board, committee
or commission:
I have a Master's of Fine Arts in Theatrical Scenic Design, which curated an interest in
architcture and historical styles. My work at the Wachholz College Center started months
before the venue opened and gave me insight into the building and architecture process. It
showed me just how special a project designed with passion and community interest can
be. I believe that the most important mission of the Wachholz College Center is the
cultural value it provides to the community and my time there has honed my appreciation
for the importance of art and culture in our community.
