Kalispell City Council thank you Public Comment from Climate Smart Glacier Country
Dear Mayor Hunter and Members of the Kalispell City Council,
On behalf of Climate Smart Glacier Country, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the City
Council and staff for taking our previous public comments into consideration during the development of
the Growth Policy. We appreciate the thoughtful discussion around flood risk and community
preparedness that has taken place throughout this process.
We were especially encouraged to see the inclusion of the following goal within the Natural Resources,
Environment, and Natural Hazards Chapter of the Growth Plan:
“11. Pursue opportunities to expand partnerships with community organizations to increase
awareness of flood risks and education related to flood mitigation.”
We believe this language represents an important step toward strengthening community awareness and
preparedness regarding flood risks in Kalispell. Partnerships between local government and community
organizations can play a valuable role in improving public understanding of flood hazards, encouraging
mitigation efforts, and helping residents make informed decisions that reduce long-term risk.
We appreciate the Council’s willingness to consider community input and to incorporate strategies that
help protect Kalispell’s residents, infrastructure, and natural resources. Climate Smart Glacier Country
looks forward to continuing to work collaboratively with the City and other partners to support efforts
that improve flood awareness and resilience within our community.
Thank you again for your consideration and for your continued service to the Kalispell community.
Best regards,
Adam de Yong
