Subject: EXTERNAL Law Enforcement and Immigration
Dear Flathead County Commissioners and Kalispell City Councilors,
My letter to you is regarding the current situation with immigration enforcement issues.
There is a loud, albeit likely a minority, of voices calling for abolishing the Immigration and
Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection agencies, and for our local city and
county agencies to not cooperate with those agencies.
I strongly disagree with that position.
The answer is not to disregard the law.The answer is to follow the law.Without laws we do not have
a civilized society.
The U.S. Constitution clearly places the responsibility for immigration into the hands of the federal
government. Congress, those duly elected by us,the people of the country, passed laws with
regards to immigration, and passed laws to give authority to certain federal agencies,to enforce
those laws. This is how our system is supposed to work. Departing from that will only bring disorder
to society.
Law enforcement is supposed to be distributed equally, regardless of who the offender is. If we can
turn a blind eye to laws, in this example concerning immigration, why can we not turn a blind eye to
any or all other laws a loud group of people disagree with?
I encourage you to continue to cooperate with proper authorities, for immigration laws and all other
law enforcement efforts. This brings order to our society and keeps us a nation of laws and not a
nation of men.
A Loud minority of people should not, cannot be allowed to change the direction of how our society
operates, with regards to law enforcement, or any other principle. And, if we abolish these federal
agencies as they wish, what would they be replaced with that would be any different?Their goal
isn't a more compassionate method of enforcement.Their goal is no enforcement.
Please stand strong in protecting our city and county.
Thankyou,
Todd Felix
