Subject: EXTERNAL Flathead County Emergency Alert System—Genasys Query
Dear Mr. Heino,
I am reaching out to gain a clearer understanding of how the Flathead County Emergency Alert
System—Genasys—is utilized, including its purpose and timing for alerts.
When the system was implemented this past July, I was thrilled that the county made the financial
and resource investment. I registered for alerts via text and email; however, I have not received any
notifications since that time. Upon learning about a significant wind event forecasted for the 17th, I
accessed my Genasys account to verify my setting and downloaded the app and enabled location
services.
At no time on the 16t" or 17t" did I receive any alerts via text or email. I even went onto the app
directly which indicated that there were no alerts for my area.
However, upon searching through Facebook, I noticed multiple alerts posted by your department,
Flathead County Sheriff's Office, Kalispell City, and various other governmental agencies. I was
puzzled then why no alerts from Genasys.
Therefore, I am curious about the Genasys alert system. Currently it appears that Facebook is the
primary source of information for residents. A platform which can be challenging for finding both
timely and accurate information, and many individuals do not even engage with social media.
In addition to my home in Kalispell, I also own a residence and a business in Lake County, where their
alert system functions exceptionally well. This system delivers timely, accurate, and invaluable
information about red flag/fire warnings, winter weather, and, more recently, wind events. It
empowers residents to make informed and safe decisions, highlighting the importance of a
dependable alert system.
I recognize that days like yesterday can be quite difficult for you and your team, who tirelessly strive
to ensure the safety of residents. I truly appreciate your hard work and commitment to this important
task.

P.S. As I compose this, I just saw another wind advisory for this evening/tomorrow but have not
received any alerts from Genasys.
