Food Bank Mayoral Proclamation+$I Mayoral Proclamation KALISPELL Recognizing and Supporting Food Banks and the Right to Food Security Whereas, food insecurity in America is the limited or uncertain ability of a household to acquire adequate food, a condition primarily caused by poverty, low wages, and unemployment; and f tQ Whereas, food insecurity has grave consequences, impacting physical and mental health, as well as cognitive development :3 and academic performance in children; and 3„ f Whereas, Food Banks are a vital resource for members of our community to minimize food insecurity; and Whereas; the Flathead Food Bank serves an average of 312 senior citizens through their commodities program, 112 through their mobile pantries, and delivers food to approximately 378 kids monthly, in total serving an average of 1,039 individuals per month; and Whereas, the Flathead Food Bank estimates a 25% increase in community need if the U.S. Department of Agriculture Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is not fully funded. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED; The City of Kalispell recognizes food security as a core community value. The City of Kalispell recognizes and supports Food Banks and encourages all residents and visitors to contribute through donations or volunteer work at Food Banks or other programs that provide food security and basic human dignity to every ►_ member of our community. r DECLARED on November 17, 2025, by Mayor Mark Johnson and the City Council.
