I see in today’s newspaper that the Council is going to issue some kind of statement pledging support for the food bank. I would like to comment on that. The buzzword lately is how the “NEED” is growing and we, the taxpayers, must step in. I am sure there are many people who DO need the food bank. I also believe that the growing need is most likely just people who want free stuff. If I were to stand on the corner and hand out one hundred bills, ONLY to the “needy”, I would maybe hand out 50 the first day. As word got out, I would probably hand out 150 one hundred bills ONLY to the “needy” the next day. The next day I would probably hand out 500 bills to ONLY the “needy”. The liberals who think money grows on trees would scream, THE NEED IS SKYROCKETING and the taxpayers MUST step in. Half of the people in the U.S. pay NO income tax and get an abundance of government aid. And then they have the nerve to say the other half are not paying their fair share and must pay more. I am the other half. I pay an enormous amount of taxes. Half of my income goes to State and Federal taxes and yet I am seen as a scofflaw or neer-do-well as George Ostrem used to say. I am trying to NOT make money anymore as I don’t get to keep much of it. I don’t think that is what made America great. I would ask you to tone down your support, and offer NO taxpayer money to the “needy”. I would send a letter to the Interlake, but my house would probably be burned down. Also, the City Attorney should be FIRED. The nitwit should have advised you better on the Warming Center debacle. It cost the taxpayers $140,000, thanks a lot, and having to apologize to Joan of Arc sickens me. Thank you. Colin Johnson.
