June 10, 2025 - Kalispell, Montana — The Kalispell Police Department is issuing a warning to all residents
regarding a fraudulent text message scam that is currently targeting Montanans. The scam claims to be a
"Final Notice" from the Montana Department of Vehicles (DMV) and threatens enforcement actions unless an
alleged unpaid traffic ticket is resolved immediately.
The message reads in part:

actfons... Pay Now: htt )s. turf-iiit.,gov-tuey.f(°i ll)oi-tal"
This message is fake and not from any official state or local agency. The link provided directs users to a
fraudulent website designed to steal personal and financial information.

- The Montana DMV does not send legal threats, or payment demands via text messages.
- Official government websites will always end in '.gov', not suspicious or obscure domains like ".icu".
- Never click on links in unsolicited messages, especially those demanding immediate action or payment.
- Do not reply to the message, even if it appears to offer a legitimate option.
