Through the lens of safety Kalispell truly needs an improvement in this infrasture not just for cars which make up most of the transit in our city but to encourage different ways of thinking how our city can grow 2 and move. By utilizing this safety grant we can go above and beyond repairing roads, which are, hopefully in the budget, and focus on how we can encourage growth and build a thriving downtown that can rely notjust on tourism but the locals as well. Rethinking streets by making it safe for all modes of transit, encourages all to come together in community. If we stay the same in our downtown, business are guaranteed to suffer because of the dangerous speeds downtown. Its apparent that people go by downtown as a commute by the amount of free parking space there is two blocks away from downtown anytime of day. My question and statement to councilors is what do you want downtown to be? Keep on this path of rethinking how we grow, using smart choices to keep our current long term debts low when we expand.Adding more business in downtown is crucial to that goal. I believe there is a lot of excitement and rejuvenation to be had, but having a highway though the main urban area has and will always continue to inhibit this energy and growth. I think this redesign will ultimately kick start growth in unexpected ways that can't be seen. I would encourage you to expound on that vision and what you have seen other cities do to prove the economic benefits of condensing street lanes especially in a small town downtown. Show your work.
