Dear Mayor and Council,
I'm sorry I was unable to attend the meeting last night on the subject of the new traffic plan.
The plan as presented does not solve what the real problem is for Main Street and its parking.
It's been parking for years.
The comment making the sidewalks wider encourages folks to walk downtown is disingenuous.
What we have in our valley is an aging population and they're not about walking they're about
parking.
The construction time is problematic .Yes, it will absolutely destroy the values of the buildings
downtown and tenants will leave.
I think you only have to look to the intense construction of the Main Street road itself sometime
in the late 80s, which absolutely lost business after a business because of its lengthy duration of
construction.
This is not the plan and I hope you will not go forward.
As for the chamber, very few businesses downtown actually are members of the chamber,
which is unfortunate and I'm not sure where their data is coming from but I do know that the
complaint I get time and time again is how impossible it is to find a parking space and how
awful it is to get a parking ticket.
So please do not kill business and devalue our assets by this traffic plan.
