To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Christina Schulien-Carter and I live here in Kalispell at 74 Sage Lane.
Please reconsider and reject this grant application for the Main Street Design. Kalispell is, has and will
be growing exponentially for the foreseeable future. Having a major highway come directly through
our town was probably not taken into consideration 50+ years ago, nor the short sightedness of
growth at which it has happened was not taken into consideration either. We have surpassed any cute
little downtown shopping haven with street cafes many moons ago. On the bright side with the advent
of the bypass, it has siphoned off some of the traffic flow from the downtown center, relieving some
traffic congestion, but it is still a headache of traffic with our population growth and summertime
tourist influx. The design that has been floated is just not feasible for a town our size (and growing)
nor for the weather we receive and the maintenance that is needed come wintertime with snow
removal and placement of snow off the sidewalks. Our city crews do a spectacular job by the way, and
we all appreciate their hard work and long hours with maintaining our roadways!
If you want to make downtown a walkers and shopper's haven, I suggest a grant application, if one is
available needs to readdress the parking situation in downtown with the development of the parking
structure that was suggest several years ago that may or would tie into any development of the old mall
into an event center.
