Dear Committee Members,
The Flathead County Board of Commissioners has appreciated the opportunity to follow the progress
of the City of Kalispell's Main Street Safety Action Plan. We write to clarify the County's role in the
ongoing discussions.
Flathead County's direct involvement is limited to those public roads lying outside municipal
jurisdiction but immediately adjacent to the city limits. In practical terms, this means we have
participated and provided feedback only in proposed changes affecting:
• Willow Glen Drive
• Woodland Park Drive
• Whitefish Stage Road
• Conrad Drive
In addition, because we are named as partners in the Main Street Safety Action Plan, we want to
clarify our position on the State maintained couplet surrounding the historic Flathead County
Courthouse. We do not concur with the proposed roadway reallocation plan for Main Street, an
established section of U.S. 93 Federal Highway.
We look forward to continued coordination with city staff to ensure that any improvements to the
road segments listed above are compatible with county standards and serve the best interests of
residents living just outside the city boundary.
