Main Street Thoughts Public Comment from Ryan EllisFrom:Ryan Ellis To:Kalispell Meetings Public Comment Subject:EXTERNAL Main Street Thoughts Date:Tuesday, May 6, 2025 9:19:37 PM [NOTICE: This message includes an attachment -- DO NOT CLICK on links or open attachments unless you know the content is safe.] Thoughts from last night (5-5-25) Landlords and business owners have different perspectives. Old school ideas vs current market realities. The rents keep going up while walk-in customers remain the same - that is not a sustainable business or downtown situation. Current traffic volumes far exceeded the intended purpose of Hwy 2 along Main St. - LP Noise, safety issues, smell, etc. Is there a problem or should the current situation be kept the same? Is Main Street for locals and businesses or just people passing through? Does Main St Kalispell function well as a highway or a pedestrian friendly downtown? It currently does neither well. Traffic volumes will increase. Rents will go up. Short term pain for long time gain. It’s worth the investment for future generations. Plenty of cities around the world have snow and have figured out ways to manage it. Have meetings on the street to understand the situation. Kalispell is a gorgeous city worth fighting for and improving long term. Small businesses are what drive and contribute to the economy. They should really be better consulted about this.
