Subject: EXTERNAL Main Street opinion
I have spent my whole life in Kalispell and have seen Main St go through many changes. Some were okay
and some were not so good. Main St is bad enough where it goes to 1 lane around the
courthouse. Changing it to 1 lane going both ways is not a good idea. There is way too much traffic for
that and with the town growing will probably only get worse. And this plan has parking all the way down
on both sides. So how are you supposed to parallel park when you know that you are blocking a lane with
people in back of you? I also don't think it's going to draw any more customers downtown.
I think you should save the money(what a concept!) and come up with another plan for that. Does
anyone remember Crazy Days when shop workers dressed up in costumes and racks were rolled out to
the sidewalk for shoppers? It used to be a big draw for that week-end but more importantly, it helped
introduce customers to the different stores and what wares they offered. That may be too old fashioned
now but there has to be a different way to bring customers uptown without ruining Main St.
