Subject: EXTERNAL Kalispell Main Street Concept Design and Grant Application
I am writingto request thatyou not move forward with implementingthe proposed Kalispell Main Street
concept design or applying for the grant to complete this project.
As a Kalispell resident who regularly patronizes the downtown area to shop at various stores, I believe
this redesign of Main Street is poorly conceived and unnecessary for the following reasons:
1. We do not need widened sidewalks in downtown. Our downtown is very walkable in its current
state. As someone who usually parks and then walks visiting several stores before returning to my
car, the sidewalks are already quite conducive to such activity.
2. We should not reduce the number of traffic lanes in downtown as that will simply create
bottlenecks and make driving to downtown locations less accessible.
3. As this redesign is unnecessary and does not provide demonstrable benefit to the citizens of
Kalispell and the Flathead Valley who work, shop, and live here every day but instead just creates
and intensifies potential traffic issues, this project is a colossal waste of money and time when
there are so many other pressing needs that could make a positive impact for residents that are
not receiving attention.
You were elected to represent your constituents in this valley. Every article I have read in the paper or
online is consistently replied to with comments that are overwhelmingly against this project. Therefore, it
is unclear to me why it continues to be explored. Please take the time to consider and heed the concerns
of the citizens that you are supposed to represent.
Respectfully,
Dena Warren
