My comment:
Before you spend a lot of time and money on this crazy change to our main downtown thoroughfare, and
U.S. Highway, may I suggest something.
Starting mid May, to the end of September or December, shut off the two inner lanes, starting at the rails
to trails crossing on main street to the courthouse.
Make it a 2 lane road through town. Retain the parallel parking. See how much traffic gets backed up. It
has been talked for quite a few years about changing
the 2 lane road around the courthouse to a 4 lane because of traffic backing up. So why change main
street? What caused the
accidents that you claim to have happened on main street? Drivers not paying attention? Drivers trying
to get through an intersection
before the light turns red? Pedestrians crossing in the middle of the block instead of using the
crosswalk?
Although we don't live in town, we do own property in town. And try not to drive downtown because of the
traffic now. Imagine what it
would be like with only 2 lanes. This is a major US Highway that is 4 lanes from Whitefish to Somers. 25
miles.What makes you think turning
part of it into a 2 lane Highway would be beneficial?
